View from the Farm: July 2026
We've been cutting hay, hauling horses around, visiting historical sites, celebrating Independence Day, and adding new chickens to the flock. Summer is a busy time for us, and this year has been no exception.
Holly and Tilly's Excellent Adventure
A couple of weeks ago, our Suffolk Punch fillies embarked on their very own adventure. Holly and Tilly are currently visiting with a Suffolk stallion way far away in New York. While we're eager to get them back, we are even more excited at the prospect of new Suffolk colts from them!
Mark Your Calendar for Doughnuts
Our sell-out doughnuts will be back at the farm stand Saturday, August 1. Available plain and maple glazed. $1.50 each, 4 for $5, or 12 for $14. Order ahead if you want to be sure to get yours!
New Hens Have Arrived
We have been plagued this summer by a very bold fox, who has done significant damage to the chicks we got in the spring. To make up for some of those losses and keep us well supplied in laying hens, we went to Canajoharie, NY with our oldest daughter and got 10 freshly laying pullets-- don't be surprised to see small or medium sized eggs at the stnad again for a bit!
What's Blooming?
Almanzo Wilder tried to warn us about the realities of crop farming, but did we listen? So far, all our early crops have been a bust. We moved our lilies in the fall, and they just haven't given us the yield this summer that we needed for making bunches. What we can say is that there are still flowers coming for the summer flush.
